A Theory of Justice by John Rawls
Description
This is a valuable item and it might make for a great gift (albeit not inexpensive) to a recent graduate in law, philosophy, politics or economics. You are bidding on a fine first U.K. edition of ‘A Theory of Justice’ by John Rawls. This title was compulsory reading for law students in Scottish Universities up to 1980 at least and probably for many years thereafter. The technical description: Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1972. A very fine copy in the original unrestored dust wrapper which has been neatly price clipped. Some mild spotting to the page block which scarcely detracts. No internal markings but for the previous owner’s name in pencil to the front free endpaper. This reads: ‘Ernest Thorp, London, 1979’. Mr Thorp was a distinguished lecturer at The London School of Economics and this volume is from his personal library. John Rawls (1920 - 2001) and this, his most famous work on distributive justice, will be known and appreciated by all prospective bidders. We will only say that if you can find a first edition copy in this condition outside of our auction then the asking price is likely to be £1,000 minimum. Thoroughly recommended.
