The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner by Alan Sillitoe
Description
Here is rare opportunity to acquire a well preserved paperback copy of one of the mainstays of modern English fiction - autographed by the author. This would be seriously expensive in first edition. This copy is relatively affordable although we do expect interest. A short story about a Borstal Boy who seeks escape from his alienation by turning to long distance running. First published in 1959 and adapted for film in 1962. In fine condition with no loose pages and no internal markings. The book is signed & inscribed by Sillitoe and an autograph page (as photographed) is loosely laid in. Alan Sillitoe (1928-2010) was best known for this title (widely read in schools for ‘O’ grade English exams) and for ‘Saturday night and Sunday morning’ - his first published novel (1958). PROVENANCE: From a personal collection of modern first editions and variants in fine condition. The present owner met with the author at the Edinburgh Book Festival around 2004.
